German Nazi Third Reich hunting dagger, known in German Hirschfanger (literally dear trapper) made by Weyersberg & Co., Solingen. The Hirschfanger were used mainly by forestry and hunting organizations that would hunt as a social gathering or activity. The dagger itself was used for stabbing the deer or boar in the heart after being shot to perform the final kill. These edged weapons were always ornate and usually made with a handle made of bone, antlers and other horns, decorated with forest elements like acorns and etched with mottos on the blade for good hunting or God’s help in the hunt.
