The Elliot Brothers company
William Elliott established his own first business at Tash Court in about 1804. In 1854 his two sons, Frederick Henry Elliott and Charles Alfred Elliott, took over the company after their father’s death a year earlier and were renamed the company: Elliott Bros in London. The company produced electrical instruments and measuring and surveying devices which played an early role in the development of computers in the United Kingdom as well as the expansion of the railroad system. In 1867 they exhibited at the 1867 Paris Exhibition under the name ‘Elliott, Brothers, 449, Strand, London.— Mathematical, optical, and philosophical instruments. The company was aquired later in the 20th century by BAE systems, one of the largest defense and aviation companies in the world.
